Moving Shelving & Furniture to Storage ~ March 24, 2011

Lambert's Storage showed up bright and early this morning to move Library shelves, books, and other connector-wing furniture to their climate-controlled building just down the street. Richard, Rick, Devon and Kyle worked well together to make the process smooth and easy...dare I say, even pleasant. Plus, they were willing to smile for the camera!

We are beginning this building project in the season of Lent. How appropriate it seemed to me today, after Lambert's had left and I walked from room to room. Empty walls and barren windows. Debris scattered around the floors (but not for long with custodian Cindy's keen and quick response!). Honestly, it felt like Lent, this season when our own spiritual houses are [hopefully]emptied of all the stuff that keeps us from connecting deeply with God and with each other on the road of faith.

On another level, it's awfully exciting to see activity happening in the connector wing! Soon it will be demolished - that space that connects Sanctuary to Education wing. My prayer is that everyone who has walked through that connector has felt the presence of God in their lives at WPC. We are undoubtedly connected - to God and to one another - by the Spirit of the living Christ. That connection remains even when the connector wing is gone.

That empty space this afternoon felt like holy ground. God was surely there through the many years of its use. And God blessed all who walked its halls, used its libraries, its nursery, classrooms and choir room. And God will bless us still.
